Providing Holistic, Palliative Care In South Western Uganda

THE NEED & WHAT WE DO

Only 11% of people in Uganda who need palliative care services can access it. Kabale Christian Care is the first non-profit organization in South Western Uganda to provide palliative care.

Our efforts to meet the need fall into one of four primary categories:

Clinical Palliative Care

A specialized type of health care that aims to relieve health-related suffering while improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

Cancer Treatment Support

Most Ugandans cannot afford cancer treatment, we support 10 patients (and their caregivers) who otherwise could not afford to receive cancer therapy.

Psychosocial Support

Our social workers and counselors provide patients (and caregivers) with counseling for bereavement, depression, anxiety and loss.

Raising Awareness

Using a variety of methods, we raise awareness to help people understand how palliative care can improve the quality of life for those in need.

WHAT IS PALLIATIVE CARE?

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines palliative care as “an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with a life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.”
